It’s a real surprise to many how much lead there still is in our homes, but in the main it’s inert and presents no threat.
But one area where lead is a problem is in paint, and particularly in paint pre-1988. So if your home is that age – or older – and you’re planning to decorate yourself then you do need to take precautions.
The vast majority of leas we ingest at home is in the form of dust, so if you’re about to rub down your paintwork you must take precautions.
Before you start, we’d recommend you buy a Lead Paint Survey DIY self test pack which, for not very much money, will let you know exactly what you’re dealing with.
And if you have lead in your paint please choose to get a professional in to rectify things.
